Turkey Tag

I have been tagged to name at least 5 things that I am thankful for so here goes.....
1. My children I feel so blessed everyday to have been given 4 beautiful, smart, healthy children. We all work as a team together in cleaning, putting on parties, watching each other etc. I love them so very much. And really can you get any cuter?
2. Tom if everyone could have a Tom the world would be such a better place. He cooks and cleans and takes care of the children every bit as much as I do, he is like Olivia and loves with all of his heart! He hardly ever gets his "feathers ruffled" and he is the best gift giver I tell ya.
3. My family, I love my parents and my siblings and am so so very grateful they are all still here! We had quite a scare this year and it really puts things into perspective. so...
4. I am grateful Troy's life was spared this year I know of so many others who have lost their loves ones just recently in the same kind of accident and feel so lucky/blessed that we got to have more time with the ones we love.
5. My friends, I am so grateful for good friends some I have had for years and some new GREAT friends that my new calling has brought to me which is another thing I am thankful for my calling I love it!
6. My house and food and clothes to keep me and my family warm and safe. I wish it came with an automatic cleaning system, but I am indeed so grateful for the neighborhood I live it for my neighbors and for my house.
7. For cars that work and don't break down on us all the time. Growing up it seemed like that was an issue and I really could not deal with that. I know they are not dream cars but hey they work. Also for my boat that is just heaven to me to be out on the lake with family!! (that however reminds me a little more of cars I grew up with not always working so well!! I guess I traded my parents they have boats that work great)
8. My health and that of my immediate families, I am grateful everyday to not be living with constant pain or severe illness. I watch my mom suffer and it breaks my heart, my sister in law Blanca has had cancer as well and with those 2 it really reminds me how we take for granted our good health! Which I am too grateful that we still have Blanca around!
9. I forgot to mention all my nieces and nephews and Tom's family I love each of them and am so grateful for them as well. I did not really have cousins my age and love that my little ones are surrounded by their cousins and that they are their best friends!!
10. My job I know it is a ton of work and really without pay (money) but I love it I love all of the cute little faces I get to work with. I love giving them something to do that they love and a place to go and feel part of a team. I love watching them accomplish their goals and get so proud of them sometimes I cry. I am so very lucky to be able to do something I really love and get to meet so many great friends this way! It also gives me lots of time with my girls. I wanted a lot of kids and sometimes things just don't work how you planned but with my job I have over 200 kids that I truely love!!

Well I could go on and on I am so very blessed. I love this time of year it is my very favorite! I am off to Colorado today so this will have to be it. I am thankful for that as well the ability to go visit family whom I love!! Happy Thanksgiving (I will miss my family here especially on Friday have a good time girls I love you all!!

I tag you all to a turkey tag name at least 5 things you are thankful for!!

I Found Them!!

Ok so I finally found my keys today for anyone that was worried about them!! Its only been 2 weeks and I am finally over the traumatic but very common experience..... If you want a good laugh read on.....
So 2 weeks ago it was Parents observation at dance, the week where parents come to all the classes to observe etc.. well I expect every time for their to be a class that just doesn't go quite right, I have tons of little kids and you never know what to expect with little ones "right" well this time this observation tops all.... A few days before this observation I have a thought about this Tuesday class thinking I need to make sure I do not lock my keys in the studio or else I will not be able to get in (this is Saturday and I have done this for the Monday classes a few times) anyway I put them somewhere as to not lose them and you know how that goes. Well I am getting costumes ready to pass out etc, the night before I had gotten all notes ready and really felt like I would come at 10 to and be 100% prepared. Well just before 10 to I go to leave and realize I can not find my keys anywhere I go into a full panic attack freaking out Kathryn style crying hysterical "what am I going to do what am I going to do" etc. Instead of figuring out a solution and driving to the studio I just sit and cry.... so I finally drive to the studio and duh figure I can call Audra to come let us in with her keys.. (if I had done this right when I realized I couldn't find them we would not have even been late) so I go to the studio I am already 5 minutes late and I am crying like a baby I tell everyone they will have to wait for 10 minutes until someone comes to let us in, so Audra thank heavens comes and we start about 15 minutes late. It gets better!! So I am getting the kids started and I get up to go turn on the music and walking across the room I totally fall like my feet slip completely out from under me and I fall I swear in slow motion in front of not just the students but their 16 parents as well... so here is their teacher with mascara stains down my face which I did not notice until the class was over falling down. I jump up one mom says take a deep breath I don't know if I should laugh or start to cry again... I turn to everyone and say you can all laugh because I totally would if I just saw someone fall like that no it just stayed silent and all these cute little faces are just looking very perplexed at me. So the rest of the week needless to say went on with out a hitch. In years past I may have felt like one of the classes had not been up to par but with this observation anything would be better!!

By the way they were in with someones returned costume. I have since made a few spares so as to not have this happen again!!

"Grandma Birdie"

Every year at this time I really think about my Grandma Burton, I think it is because her birthday is October 23rd and with Halloween I have a lot of the "fun size" candy bars at my house and "fun size" candy bars make me think of her and smile. (I have had this post on my mind for about 2 1/2 weeks I am just slow getting some pictures scanned). Anyway I thought I would post a little blog tribute to her so that my memories are written down somewhere... This picture above is of my Great Grandparents on my mom's side ( my grandma's parents) Howard T. Burton and Leone Risley Burton. This picture was taken at Lake Powell, I think sometime in the 60's. Is he not the cutest?? Give her hair some slack she had been camping, I love this picture, it is one of my all time favorites...
This is my Grandma's school picture I don't know the year for sure, it was taken when she lived out on the salt flats so my guess is about 1918 or 1919. She is the one closest to the teacher on the left (looking at it) and 2 of her sisters are the 2 on the end on the left side. It is funny that she seems to be a tall person in this picture because she was very tiny. She would always tell me stories about living out on the Salt Flats, and how their school did not have a bathroom so you would have to run home to go... My Grandpa Burton lived in the Grangerish area, he told me that when he was little they would ride a hay wagon to school, like it was the school bus. I thought that was just amazing, they then took us to ride a haywagon at Wheeler farm.... I don't know if he took us there because we loved that story or if that is when he first told me the story, either way I loved it. When my grandma was little she was on a family trip (about 9 or 10) at Utah lake, and her dad got sucked under water by an under toe and drowned while she watched. She said they dragged him out and rolled him over a barrel to get the water out of him. It was such a tragic thing for her that she blocked it from her memory for years.....Then as an adult she was out fishing and her grown son dove into the water and the sound of the splashing etc brought a sudden flashback of all the memories she had suppressed. She got sick and they had to go home. She would tell me this story a lot, also of how for Christmas they would get Sarsaparilla and an orange. Can you imagine our children now being excited to get that!!

This is her with Maddie when Maddie was about 8 weeks old. She was great she made blankets for us when we were little, she called them drag around quilts. She even made Maddie one when she was born. These blankets were my favorite "my blue blankets" when I went into the hospital to have Maddie I told Tom to sneak and throw them away while I was gone, I had slept with them my whole life and figured they might be dangerous with all the dangling parts for a new born. I wish some nights I had one of those blankets. You would know on Christmas morning when she came over with big garbage sacks that you were getting new drag arounds and it was great!!

When Maddie was born we had 5 generations in our family this is a picture of it after Maddie's blessing.... It is my Great Grandma in front on the left, then my Grandma Marilyn Hughes on the right. In the back is my mom Kathryn White on the left and me with some serious bangs holding sleeping Maddie. This summer that Maddie was a baby, my grandparents went to Alaska for the summer and asked me to keep an eye out for my great grandma. We only had one car so Tom would drop us off on his way to work, and then pick us up after. It was great!!! I am so glad I had that summer, the stories she would tell me, the things she taught me.... we would sit and go through all her pictures and I would write on the back who the people were and she would tell me stories about all the pictures. I wish I had some of them to show there was this really cute one where she and some friends had gone swimming. Their suits and the cute 20's hats are so cute. On that day their is a picture of my Great Grandpa in his swimming suit too, which I never saw him without long pants on, he was born with the skinniest ankles ever I don't know if their is a name for that or what but he did not walk for a long time because he couldn't his legs were too skinny. You could see in the picture they are like pencils I can't believe he ever did walk. She also taught me that summer how to make her famous orange crisp cookies, they are made with a cookie press into these cute little flower shapes. A family party was just not the same without these cookies. She then gave me the cookie press which I still have and use every once in awhile. It is great strictly from the 50's my favorite thing about the cookie press is the box it is in because it has her handwriting on it. I don't know why but I love to look at her writing. They were great people. My mom and her sisters would tell me how their grandpa would take them to Zellerbacks and would roller skate around the warehouse with them. What a fun Grandpa to roller skate with you don't you think??? I remember he always bought doughnuts from the Salt Lake Doughnut Co. and when I was little he would take me to the Paris where my mom and my great grandma worked to pick them up, what I thought was sooo cool was driving up a parking garage while we waited why I don't know but it was super cool when you were that age. My mom and grandma were in charge of gift wrapping at the Paris. My mom can wrap a present like nobodies business. (I think that is why I am so bad at it because she could do it super fast and it would look great so I always had her do it) Another thing I remember about my Grandpa Burton is he seemed to always be joking around and laughing, he and my grandma loved each other more then I ever remember seeing in another couple.
That is another memory that is kind of sad, I remember when he died and she just layed on him before they closed the coffin lid and she just sobbed and sobbed I will never forget that. She then lived another 12 years and talked about him every day!!! One funny story they would both tell is when he asked her for an orange and she said "Where will you have it?" He pointed to his eye and she threw it right at his eye giving him a black eye. She said everyone gave them a hard time that such a tiny person could beat him up like that. I can still picture that twinkle in her eyes that she got when she smiled telling this story. She loved to go to the cabin that she and her husband and my Grandpa & Grandma Hughes built. I loved going to the cabin with her... she would get so excited when she would see a moose or deer etc. (Whats your excuse Nat) I remember Christmas dinners at her house, picnics with both sets of granparents, and going to the hockey games with them, or the ballet (the 2 together isn't it ironic) anyway I picture both my grandma's in their little scarfs over their hair waddle walking down the street arm in arm together. On one of those trips is when I sat next to my Grandma Birdie as we called her and she opened her purse which is this great black purse that Zarley now brings her dance shoes to dance in, anyway she had a bag of fun size candy bars, she asks me if I want one of course I do its a Baby Ruth, I open mine cock my head back and throw down the whole thing in one gulp, I look over at her and she is taking bites not just one or two, but like 3 and then she starts to wrap it back up..... she probably saw my questioning face and she says "I'm just saving some for later" it was a fun size you know I ate mine in one bite probably without chewing!~ This might be why the most she ever weighed was 105 pounds and that was on a Tuesday and she had a baby on Thursday. Which reminds me.... when she had my grandma she had some kind of problems, I don't know what, but they told her she would never be able to have anymore children, so 7 years later when she had her second child, they did not tell my grandma they were having a baby until she actually had him because she did not want her to be disappointed she had wanted a baby brother/or sister so badly!! I think about this too when I want another baby, or when I had been trying so hard to have babies, I would think of her saying sometimes you just don't get what you want, she would have liked more children also. Because of the complications they had a lot of hospital bills that just going into the depression had a really hard time paying, she told me about this and also about a table they had bought before everything crashed, she then would tell me about how my grandpa would go and pay what he could when he could, and out of honor would not let any of these debts go unpaid. I wish we had that kind of honor now a days!! She also told me of how they would go to bed really early so they wouldn't realize how hungry or cold they were because they did not have food or money to heat their house. That generation just saw so much and was so amazing. I find it very sad that they are all leaving us and these kind of stories will now just be in books (we hope anyway who knows where our country is headed maybe that is aonther reason she has been on my mind). I was very blessed to have known my great grandparents as well as I did and for my Grandma Birdie to have known 2 of my children here. I miss them terribly and wish I could just sit down to one more Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner with them all there. I think I shall make some orange crisp cookies tomorrow and share this memory with my younger kids who never knew them.
P.S. fam share a memory if you have one!! I left some out for this purpose

One Year Ago Today!!

This week last year we were soaking up the sun on a Caribbean Cruise.... Oh to be able to go back in time. We had such a great time. We went with friends.... Shane & Kim Keppner & John & Tiffany Baker... Thanks for the invite guys we would have never done a cruise otherwise and I have so many fun/funny memories. So we will pretend like it was this year and blog about it so I won't forget!!
Here is Shane, Tom, a showgirl and John. The funny thing about this picture is that Kim got mad at Shane because "he was smiling bigger in this picture then he was in the picture of the two of them" Don't mind Tom and John snuggling right up to her... in fact where is John's other arm?? Just kidding sorry Kim I have to give you a hard time that was too funny!! The funniest thing happened a few days after this whole picture incident, we had gone up to the topless deck, we had been there a few other times and no one was ever really up there at least not topless, we just went up there because it was one of the only places with lounge chairs left. Well on one of the last days we went up there and their was a topless girl...... John, Tiffany, Tom and I arrived a few minutes before Kim & Shane and we noticed the girl right away.... well Tom and John faced themselves facing away from her, and Tiffany and I were just kind of to the side, we were totally discussing whether she had orignal parts or not.... well Shane and Kim came up and did not notice her, Tiffany and I were laughing like 6 year olds just giggling waiting for them to notice. Well Shane sets his chair so he is facing directly towards this girl and Kim the opposite way, so she is right in Shane's view, Tiffany and I are now laughing even harder with the whole picture thing we know Kim is not going to like this. Well he is looking straight ahead for a minute and then he notices his face was so classic!! So our little girly giggling is now loud laughter as Shane tries to explain how he was looking at them painting the top of the boat... Ya right we say and continue to laugh it was just so funny that he takes his chair and moves it to have a perfect shot of the topless girl. Well she rolls over so you can not see her anymore, Kim had her headphones on so she missed the laughter and the quick back peddaling Shane was doing!! I still think she may not know about this! We laughed for days about it.

We went to this Dolphin Cove place in Jamaica.... It was pretty cool, the ship director said it was like Disneyland, however he failed to mention that if you did not sign up to swim with the Dolphins it was like going to Disneyland and not riding any rides.... Here is me pouting about not swimming with the Dolphins.... We did however get to snorkel here which was neat, when we got done snorkeling I walked to the end of the dock and this dolphin swam up to me and let me pet his nose. I didn't realize I wasn't supposed to do this until the workers started freaking out.. I was so excited it was really neat like we were just having a moment the dolphin and I, but this is what made me really want to swim with them. It is a really neat place.

This was at Tulum. It was this ancient ruin city. It was soooo cool. The water was beautiful and we had so much fun swimming here. Right here in the water, Tom, John, Tiffany, Shane and I were all swimming all the sudden this huge wave came up over us it picked me up and threw me down, then picked me up and threw me again, it was like I was rolling like a tumbleweed. I stood up all embarrassed thinking all these guys had seen my bum or something worse because my swimming suit did not stay in place.... but when I stood up and looked around they were all shaking the stars out of their heads as well, it had picked us all up. I wish someone had gotten a picture/video of this event to see one little wave throwing 5 adults around like rag dolls. I am sure some of the people on the shore got a few butt crack shots if not some boobies too.

Look at the color of that water!!! Oh what I wouldn't give to be able to dive in that right now!

Tom & I at Tulum (above not below!)

Like I said we saw a lot of beautiful scenery!

Tulum again...

"The Germans are Coming The Germans are coming".... Tom came running out of this tunnel thing yelling this only to have a few German speaking people come out right after him. Maybe you had to be there but we laughed pretty hard..

John, Kim & Tom at Sting Ray City in Grand Cayman. This was such a beautiful place also. We almost didn't get to come here, our excursion had been cancelled due to weather, but I was not going back to the ship with out doing something!! I had gotten a little stir crazy luckily Shane found us a bus driver that would take us back to the ship later and we caught a boat out to this place. It was so neat swimming with all the sting rays. If you have never done it you have got to try it!!

John & Tiffany
Days on the cruise, (if you were not stopping somewhere) were just like hanging out at a buffet all day. It was nice, ice cream and lemonade at any given moment. Nights they had shows, comedians and this dance group. They would put on little shows. Tiffany Baker was so fun to sit next to because she would just laugh and laugh at the dancers. Especially this Rogerish European guy in very short shorts at one point. Who kind of reminded you of how Napoleon dances. It was good times I tell ya!!

Tom & I buffeting

Kim and Shane at the buffet as well. (Cute picture)

Me at Sting Ray City this little sting ray just wanted to snuggle up!! It kind of freaked me out at first, but then I thought it was really cool.

Tom at Sting ray city. He loves this kind of stuff... snorkeling, water, sea creatures etc. He was totally in Heaven!

All 6 of us at Dunns River Falls in Jamaica, we hiked up to and through this water fall. It was really pretty, I wish we could have walked through it on our own, so you could see more of it instead of peoples bums in front of you.
This whole trip was amazing we had such a good time with good friends. We should all go again. We swam, read books, played cards, played trivia type games which by the way Shane is the master!! Ate lots. (I think everyone but Kim probably gained a little weight) laughed and laughed at lots of dumb things. Like the dancers, like stuff out in the hall John is not taking credit for!! (inside joke), Tom explaining why the stop lights in Florida are sideways, We played some jokes, shopped, saw amazing places. It was the best!!! So like I said I wish I could go back just one year (today) GOOD TIMES

Halloween 2008

Dr. McDreamy (Josh) & Dr. Natalie... with Lila Thing 2 and Emme the lady bug.
Grandma Kathryn as her traditional witch.....She falls asleep everywhere all the time so this is the picture you get!!

Shawna & Andrew as Olive Oil and Popeye

2 little bugs.... Emme & Annika. We all tried for at least 10 minutes to get their picture together, they would crawl off, or Annie would take off her hat and Emme would try to put it back on. It was cute!!

Audrey & Dan the Bee keepers w/ Annie Sues the bumble bee

The Mad Hatter/Miotch and Autumn as Alice..... Mike wanted in on the Picture

Livie as Tinkerbell, Zarley as Cinderella, Owen as Spiderman, and Lila and Canyon as Thing 1 and Thing 2

Thing 2 and Thing 1 aren't they cute!!! They were so cute together, at Preschool they got to go out on the sidewalk and wave to all the cars passing by... people thought they were twins. They both loved getting their hair painted blue. Canyon would go look in the mirror and then come back and tell me if their was still "yellow hair"

Jaimie & Corbin as Juno and Pauly Bleaker... sorry its sideways I do now know how to switch it, and forgot, but do not know how to edit....

This is Canyon on Halloween night he started out so grumpy!! After going for a bit though he chippered right up!!

Maddie a 50's girl, Olivia Tinkerbell, Hayden as Napolean Dynamite (way to fitting of a personality for Hayden) and Canyon as Thing 1

Here is Tom as Obama the terrorist.... and Maddie. I guess I should have posted this before the election when it was funny!! Now that he is the commander in chief I guess he deserves our support. I do have to say I am frightened a little for where our Country could be headed I hear the words "Socialism" etc and really get scared. However I hate when the democrats sit and bash the president. I feel that it makes our country weak. It shows us as divided it really bugs me when celebrities go to other countries and bash the president. So with the jokes on Obama out of the way and me voicing a little concern he now has my support. I do hope that he will lead our country to better grounds!! By the way though I have never had more respect then I did for John McCain last night when he gave his concession speech. It is the best I have ever heard, he had dignity, he said what a great day it was in our Country to elect the first black man and how far we have come in such a short time. He encouraged all to ge behind Obama and support him. Much better then crying and asking for a recount like we have had in the past!

Incredible News!!

I just thought I would share some very incredible news on this scary of all scary days!!! I switched to Geiko just kidding...... The real news is I just filled up my entire car with gasoline (for the first time in months being that they limit you to $100) for only $98 Whooo Whooo!! Seriously this is an exciting thing for us!!

Excuse Me....

So Canyon the other day in the car said "Hey mom if you say excuse me when you fart or burp then it doesn't stink right?"........ "excuse me" I laughed and said who told you that and he said "Zarley" Zarley is good for that kind of information!

So I decided to keep adding to this blog for Canyon all the funny things he says or does since I do not keep a journal for him (sorry Canyon) anyway.....

11/7 Yesterday on the way to Preschool Canyon said "Hey mom so what High school did you go to?" like we were on a first date or something.... I told him Alta and he said "Ohhh High School Alta?,, hey guys (to Maggie and Lila) my mom went to High School Alta"......

11/7 Yesterday Canyon also got his school pictures back, When I showed them to him he just looked at them pointed to his teeth with a big content smile and said "clean" all happy and walked away.... He has a fetish with clean teeth. He told my friend Shelly that her teeth were yellow and that she had better brush them. A Little embarrassing... but hey it would be nice to have a child who I don't have to beg and force to brush their teeth!!

11/23 Yesterday when Canyon and I were singing "I love to see the Temple" he told me I sing it wrong, it is not a "Sacred Duty" it is a "Secret Beauty" When he gets married hopefully it will be there with a secret beauty.... and I will tell her this story....

11/23 Today at church Canyon had brought some dinosaurs to play with (thanks Crissy) and when I told him he needed to not play with them during the sacrament and that he needed to be thinking of Jesus he told me " I am.... I am thinking of Jesus playing Dinosaurs with me".... I laughed I guess that works!!

12/17 A few funny things Canyon has said lately..... The other day Josh & Audrey & I were at my moms because she just had an operation on her foot, anyway a lady from the ward came over to bring her lunch.... Josh did not know she was there and after I helped Canyon go the bathroom I sent him back out without clothes on so I could get him dressed..... Well Josh told him to say to Audrey "check out my bean bag" SO all the sudden we hear Canyons little voice yell "Audrey check out my bean bag" then you hear Audrey get mad at him to go get some clothes on. Josh and I were hiding in the kitchen because I had then informed him "there's a lady here" we were laughing so hard we could not breath you know that laugh when you are trying to stay quiet and tears are running down your face......

Another funny thing he said was.... Tom is in the bishopric, I know it probably doesn't seem like it with some of our posts but anyway he was falling a sleep and Canyon yells out..."hey we don't sleep at church" I said oh silly daddy and he said that is not silly that is naughty!

1/25/09- Today at church again we were talking about how we should be thinking about Jesus during the Sacrament... I asked Canyon what he was thinking about, he said "that he is the Manager" I said he was born in the manger? No he is THE manager.... he has told us this before, when I laughed and the girls asked why he said "well he is"....
Also at church the girls were using a red laser to flash on Tom as he was up on the stand.... he was so embarrassed they thought they were pretty funny!!

Just wanting to update a few funny things Canyon has said..... the other day he told me he has magic burgers..... He just rubs his two hands together and they disappear just like magic!!

Last night we were driving home, he said sometimes someones an idiot..... I had to have him repeat it a few times to figure what he was saying then I said ya sometimes some people are... then he paused for a minute and said sometimes someone is Hayden....
